  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Possess an active Internal Audit Practitioner designation.
  • Have five years of internal audit experience.

Once accepted into the CIA program, candidates must pass all three parts of the CIA exam within the program eligibility period. For complete details, you can download the handbook [here](https://dl.theiia.org/Documents/Certification-Candidate-Handbook-ENU.pdf).

Generally, you do not need to be a member of The IIA to take the CIA exam or earn the CIA designation. However, some countries do require candidates to be IIA members to sit for the exam.

While not mandatory, IIA membership offers several benefits:

  • Access to the latest exam preparation resources.
  • Networking opportunities with other professionals.
  • Updates on current CIA news and information.
  • Considering these advantages, becoming an IIA member can be highly beneficial for your CIA journey.

ACCA members are exempt from the education and work experience requirements. To become CIA certified, they only need to pass the three CIA exams. Additionally, ACCA members have the option to take the CIA Challenge Exam, allowing them to earn the certification by passing a single exam instead of the standard three.

All 3 exams can be done within one year with proper guidance and support.
